Toolbox Percussion has been promoting percussive arts programmes in Hong Kong since 2012, curating ambitious music projects and challenging the best in the field while nurturing new musical talent in innovative ways.
Toolbox Percussion, as creative incubator, works to make new music happen by commissioning, developing, collaborating, professional training, performing, recording and touring of contemporary performances.
The acclaimed Toolbox Percussion Trilogy, spread over a time span of three years, has been a proven success in creating cutting-edge and innovative programmes that challenged local artists, enhanced cultural exchange by collaborating with world-class musicians and developed a series of outreach and professional educational activities.
For the 2018/19 season, Toolbox Percussion toured to Asia Culture Center at Gwangju in South Korea and made its US debut at the San Francisco International Arts Festival. Co-hosted with the Chinese Culture Center of San Francisco, Toolbox Percussion showcased works in an exhibition titled “A Double Listen” for the first time in the United States. Toolbox International Creative Academy (TICA), a new education initiative in joint effort with the University of Oklahoma launched in early 2019, provides professional apprenticeship opportunities through focused areas of studies and learning occasions with industry professionals.
Toolbox Percussion is currently a recipient of a three-year grant from the Hong Kong Arts Development Council.
